FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS LET US ANSWER SOME OF YOUR QUESTIONS

Self-storage is the term applied to storage facilities that offer do-it-yourself storage space for members of the public and businesses to rent month-to-month. You can rent your own lockable secure room of practically any size for as long or short a period, as you require.

You are the only person to hold the key and you can come and go as often as you like during normal working hours. Your rights and goods are protected via a straightforward rental agreement signed with SA Self Storage.

Self-Storage offers the provision for customers of space for the storage of furniture, chattels, paper and other goods (subject to certain restrictions) where the storage space offers all of the following characteristics:

  • The customer has exclusive use of the storage area
  • The storage unit is secured to prevent access except by the customer
  • The storage unit is in a fixed location and is never moved while in use
  • Access to each individual storage area is without the use of ladders
  • The customer has unrestricted access to the storage area during site opening hours
  • Transfer of goods into and out of the storage area can be completed by the customers themselves
  • We offer short and long term storage – Flexibility!
  • 24hr Armed response – there is always someone on the premises!
  • Our units are painted and insulated from dust and water.
  • Close to the Sandton CDB – Accessible!

SA Self Storage has units ranging from 1.3 Square meter right up to 30 Square meters.

To best estimate the size of storage space required, and as a service to our customers – we offer to calculate the size storage unit required. Should you be able to furnish an inventory list we can gladly estimate the space you need. 

MY GOODS ARE ARRIVING IN A CONTAINER – HOW MUCH SPACE DO I NEED?

The sizes of the two most commonly used containers are:

20’ (6 metre or 20 Foot) Container

40’ (12 metre or 40 Foot) Container

Area: 13.87 Square Metres

Area: 28.3 Square Metres

Volume: 33.1 Cubic Metres

Volume: 67.5 Cubic Metres

Recommended Self Storage Unit: 
15 to 20 Square Metres

Recommended Self Storage Unit: 
30 to 35 Square Metres

Containers are generally well packed and use the full volume of the container. 

The self-storage unit used should be larger than the container – this allows for easy access to the contents when unpacked into the self-storage unit. 

Units are allocated on a “First Come First Served Basis”. A unit will be reserved once a signed Rental Agreement and the Debit Order authority has been signed and returned:

  • Signed Contract (Download)
  • Signed Debit Order

SA Self Storage does not provide labour when moving into or out of a the storage unit.

Transport and Packing of your possessions to SA Self Storage can be arranged. Quotes will depend on certain criteria, which we need to know:

  • What the inventory to be transported is.
  • When you will need the goods to be transported
  • Where the goods will be picked up from (neighbourhood)
  • What the circumstances are (1st floor on building, ground floor etc.)

  • General Security
    The entire premises are alarmed (motion sensors in all internal areas and intrusion detectors on all access doors). These sensors and detectors are connected directly to “ZSS Armed Response Security” via radio alarm and telephone line. All Entrances are secured with Steel Security gates and locked with VIRO Insurance Locks. SA Self Storage Staff stay on the premises.
  • The Unit
    All units used for storage are completely self-contained – no one can see into the unit and the door is locked with a security lock (supplied by the customer or one can be purchased from SA Self Storage).
  • Access Control
    Access is strictly controlled and only granted to authorised and fully paid-up clients –
    proof of identity required. Customers must have the correct key for the lock on the units.
  • The storage units are locked by the tenant – You keep Your own key. The storage unit is completely self-contained – no one else can see into or access Your storage unit.
  • All the major insurers are prepared to cover your goods while they are in storage. Merely inform your insurer that the goods will be in storage and they will gladly cover your possessions under your Household Policy. SA Self Storage can issue a standard letter describing our facilities and the security measures we have implemented – this letter can be directly passed onto your insurer.
  • No, access is free providing the units are accessed during normal facility hours:
    Monday – Friday: 8am – 4:30pm
    Saturdays: 8am – 2pm
    Sundays: 8am – 12pm

    Public Holidays : Closed

You can authorise others to access your unit as long as prior arrangements are made with SA Self Storage and the person(s) accessing the unit are able to identify themselves properly – ID required. To obtain entry to the unit the storage unit key will also be required.

The rental agreement runs on a month-to-month basis and renews automatically on the 1st on each month if we have not had notice from you. In special circumstances where we have clients who use our facility regularly and only occupy space for a day or two at a time, we offer billing on a daily or weekly basis. When you move in you will be pro-rated (i.e. only pay for 10 days rental if you move in on the 20th of the month).

Car Machine, EFT or Debt order Payment is accepted by Debit Order only.

SA Self Storage does NOT hold a deposit for the rental of a storage unit.

A Calendar month notice (30 DAYS).

Frist come first serve – once paid then unit is reserved.
